EU radio news to go on air in 2008
The European Union will fund a daily pan-European radio programme as of next year.
A consortium of 16 radio stations including Deutsche Welle, Radio France Internationale, Radio Netherlands Worldwide and Polskie Radio won a tender by the European Commission to produce "informative radio programmes on EU affairs".
The core of the programme is a 30 minutes daily news bulletin on EU affairs which will be broadcast on the existing frequencies of the partner radio stations. In addition, anyone will be able to download and listen to the productions of the "European Radio Project" on a dedicated internet website.
Initially the show will be produced in English, French, German, Spanish and Polish but more languages will be added in the coming years.
